Anthropic launched Claude Design on April 17, 2026, under the Anthropic Labs banner, first as a preview for paid plans. According to Anthropic's help center, it is now available on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and on by default. It produces what a small business owner usually hands to a designer or patches together in a slide tool: a meeting deck, an offer one-pager, a screen mockup, a social media visual.

Where to find it

  • In a conversation: ask for a design, or choose Output then Design in the message box. The canvas opens next to the chat.
  • In the Artifacts tab: pick a Design template.
  • In Claude Code: the /design command.
  • On the iOS and Android apps: you can request a design and edit it full screen; sharing is set on the web or desktop app.

The old standalone address, claude.ai/design, closes on December 14, 2026. If you built a design system there, Anthropic publishes a guide to migrate it before that date.

Your first document, step by step

  1. Give it your visual identityImport a "design system": your colors, fonts and components, from files, screenshots or a code repository. Every new project then picks it up automatically.
  2. Add contextAttach your notes, an old deck, screenshots, a Word or PowerPoint file. Claude may ask you questions before starting.
  3. Describe the resultGoal, audience, content, format. The prompt below gives an example.
  4. Correct on the canvasUse chat for big changes, comments to target one element, and move or resize blocks yourself.
  5. Export or shareExport button at the top right: .zip, PDF, PPTX, Google Slides, standalone HTML, or send to other tools such as Canva. The Share button sets who can view, comment or edit.

Example: a client meeting deck

A small agency pitching its maintenance plan to a shop owner could start from this prompt:

Prompt
Create a 6-slide deck in English, using my design system.
Audience: [e.g. owner of a bakery, short on time, not technical].
Goal: she understands my offer [offer name] and agrees to a 30-minute call.
Content, one idea per slide:
1. Her problem, in her words: [e.g. the website is never up to date].
2. What I actually do, in 3 points.
3. How it works, in 3 steps.
4. An example result: [real example, otherwise leave an empty placeholder].
5. The price: [amount] per [month/project].
6. Next step: a 30-minute call.
Clean style, lots of white space, no more than 25 words per slide.
Do not invent any figure, testimonial or client logo. Ask me your questions before starting.

The language instruction matters: name the language in your request, and check the text of any template you import.

Useful settings

  • One design system per brand: if you work for several clients, create one for each, from their own files.
  • The link with code: in Claude Code, /design-sync pulls your project's design system, and /design imports a design into your code.
  • Keyboard: Cmd+\ (Ctrl+\ on Windows) opens the properties panel.

Good to know

  • No version history yet: export a copy before a big change.
  • Comments sometimes vanish from the page: paste your note into the chat instead.
  • Several people editing at once is still basic.
  • A very large code repository can slow the tool down: go through Claude Code.
  • On cost, Claude Design uses the same limits as the rest of Claude. Once you hit the limit, wait for the reset or turn on usage credits.

Security. Designs are private by default: check the Share setting before sending a link to a client. Do not connect a code repository that holds keys or passwords, and do not import client files without their consent. Check every figure before exporting: you are the one signing the document.

Once your decks are ready, sending them and following up on meetings can run on its own: that is the kind of automation I set up.
